Volvo TP21 ‘Terräng-Sugga’

The Volvo TP21 (RAPTGB 915) is a 4×4 off-road vehicle that was developed for the Swedish Army and was produced from 1953 to 1956. This ‘Sugga’ was restored and electrified by Volvo specialist Toncar. The Zonic180 motor coupled with a 2.2:1 reduction gearbox bolted directly to the transfer case was chosen as a drive unit. A 66kWh battery pack split between the front and rear was chosen as the battery pack. In addition to the 10kWh of “onboard” chargers, the Volvo is also equipped with DC CCS fast charging with a maximum charging rate of 45kWh. The interior features modern front seats and is entirely done in two colors of leather.
Thanks to the 240hp electric motor coupled to the reduction gearbox, the Volvo drives very smoothly and a lot faster than before. 0-50 km/h now takes less than 5 seconds and 0-80km/h is covered in 10 seconds. When off-road, the transfer case can still be shifted into the low gear and the vacuum-operated limited slip differentials can be engaged via an electric vacuum pump.
